More secret trade talks focus on what’s good for business
Workers are concerned about what is
being negotiated in the Trade In Services Agreement (TISA)
as revealed in the largest ever leak from such negotiations
by Wikileaks.
Even less is known about the TISA negotiations than the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) negotiations. “New Zealand workers are increasingly concerned about what these secret deals mean for them,” CTU Secretary, Sam Huggard said. The New Zealand government is one of a small minority of WTO members pushing the negotiations.
“The powers that these negotiations are giving to private corporations severely undermines the ability of governments to protect workers, the environment, and the stability of our financial system. The interests of corporations appear paramount.”
“More and more Kiwis are concerned about what these backroom secret negotiations are about. Workers in this country deserve to know what is being agreed to as these negotiations will directly impact on peoples lives.”
