Vulnerable New Zealanders will be affected most by Relationships Aotearoa closure
The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is concerned that vulnerable clients are being left in the lurch in the wake
of the abrupt closure of Relationships Aotearoa.
“NZNO is particularly concerned that already overstretched existing health services will be left dealing with those
affected by mental illness, addictions, relationship breakdown and family violence previously supported by Relationships
Aotearoa”, says NZNO associate professional services manager, Hilary Graham-Smith.
“The government wants these services provided but doesn’t seem to understand that long term consistency of service is
key for clients. They have a responsibility to ensure that unsafe and unethical impacts on clients are avoided. We don’t
think they have done that in this situation.”
“We are concerned that transitional agreements with alternative providers, and mechanisms ensuring seamless and legal
transfer of client information and consents are not in place.”
