Taxpayers Short-Changed by Skycity Deal
The Taxpayers’ Union is outraged over the latest details of the SkyCity convention centre released today, specifically that the number of delegates the centre will be able to hold has been reduced for a second time. Taxpayers’ UnionExecutive Director, Jordan Williams, says:
“Taxpayers were promised a facility to host between 3,500 and 5,000 delegates. Then the Government revised that down to 3,000 and now SkyCity has decreased that again to 2,850.”
“The Government justified the gambling concessions to SkyCity by saying there would be a ‘sinking lid’ on pokies. As time has gone on it is clear that the ‘sinking lid’ is really the number of delegates the convention centre can support.”
“Once again Steven Joyce is letting SkyCity short-change New Zealanders.”
