Good Boost to Auckland Housing says Sallies
The Salvation Army supports the Government’s decision to make state land available for building affordable housing in Auckland.
Auckland needs more housing that is affordable and available for those on lower incomes. This decision is a good step in the right direction.
If a way can be found to pass this land immediately onto consortiums focused on affordable and social housing, then supply can be improved.
This action potentially allows social service NGOs to join development and building consortiums in providing more houses. It allows the provision of affordable homes for low income people to own and also increases supply of affordable and social rentals.
As with all these schemes the “devil is in the detail”, but the initial indicators are that this budget provision could make the best contribution yet to really starting to attack Auckland housing crisis.
With insufficient affordable, social and emergency houses, particularly in Auckland, this announcement does help to incentivise organisations to focus on addressing the Auckland housing supply crisis.
