All three electorate MPs in Northland region are Ngāpuhi
The weekend election of Winston Peters as the MP for Northland means all three electorate Members of Parliament for the Northland region are Ngāpuhi.
The other two Ngāpuhi electorate MPs are Kelvin Davis (Labour – Te Tai Tokerau) and Dr Shane Reti (National – Whangarei). A fourth Northland Ngāpuhi MP is Pita Paraone (New Zealand First – List).
Said Tūhoronuku IMA Chairman and Ngāpuhi leader Raniera (Sonny) Tau: “This is cause for enormous pride for Ngāpuhi. Although each of our Northland region electorate MPs represents a different political party, within each beats a strong Ngāpuhi heart.
“Kelvin, Shane and Winston - we congratulate you all and wish you every success in your endeavours representing our Northland communities in Parliament and bringing advancement to our region.
“This truly is a turning point for Te Tai Tokerau and the 125 000 who proudly affiliate to Ngāpuhi, especially with negotiations for our settlement beginning within months, which will have a profound impact on Ngāpuhi and on Northland.”
