Whangarei MP’s Advice To Road Campaigner A Disgrace
Democrats for Social Credit Deputy Leader, and Whangarei Candidate, Chris Leitch, has labeled the local MP’s advice to the Pipiwai Road Action group “a disgrace”.
Being told to "hold their breath" and stop lobbying for the sealing of their dusty road until after next week's by-election is the ultimate in hypocrisy.
The residents have spent years lobbying local councillors and a raft of MP’s to try to get action on a dust nuisance that is a significant health hazard, yet they have to witness a plethora of Cabinet Ministers, limousines, and MP’s galore, all paid for by the taxpayer, parade themselves through the surrounding area campaigning for votes.
The message – “we can find money for an all out assault in a by-election right next door to you, but we can’t find the money to seal a few kilometers of road”.
Even more of an affront, is the surprise promises rolled out by the Government to spend large on bridges, some of which are on roads that carry far less traffic than what trundles down their unsealed roads every day.
Yet the best their local MP can do is to say he “had been working to help the group for some time, behind the scenes”.
That’s not good enough, and neither is his apology for upsetting them.
My advice to Alex Wright and her supporters is to “step up the campaign”.
I would happily hold up one end of a protest banner if they need more helpers.
