"Make it Happen" Internationl Women's Day

United Nations established International Women’s Day in 1977 to celebrate the rights of women and international peace. Members of Zonta International around the world have a very special reason to celebrate. Zonta International, founded in 1919, is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. With more than 30,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 67 countries and geographic areas, Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta's mission and objects.

Zontians have made and continue to make a difference in the lives of women everywhere. The 8th of March is a day to reflect on the achievements of the past and prepare for the challenges ahead. It is also a day when Zonta celebrates Rose Day which coincides with International Women’s Day. Women honoured for their service and advocacy are presented with a yellow rose – a symbol for Zonta Rose Day since 1999.

Zonta are hosting many events around the country to celebrate International Women’s Day and Rose Day. There will be a breakfast fundraiser in Christchurch hosted by the Zonta Club of Christchurch South and UN Women National Committee Aotearoa New Zealand on Friday 6th March 2015. Guest speakers are Lt Col Emma Thomas, RNZALR, Commanding Officer and Warrant Officer Class One Alie Henry,

Regimental Sergeant Major – the first all-female command team from the 3rd Combat Support Service Battalion of the New Zealand Army.
