High Noon for the TPPA

High Noon for the TPPA

Jane Kelsey's recent op-ed in the NZ Herald noted that if TPPA is going to be part of Obama’s legacy he will want the deal done soon – by June at the latest! She argued that the technical details are ‘largely over’ and the negotiations have entered the political zone.

This presents important opportunities to influence those decisions and the fate of the agreement. Public opinion needs to be mobilised to tell the government what New Zealanders think about the key issues of secrecy, public health, foreign investors’ rights to sue governments, and of the extraordinary powers the US wields in this process. The political institutions in all nations, be they congress or parliaments, must protect the sovereignty of their people not capitulate to threats.

Jane, Barry Coates and Pat Neuwelt will outline the impact of an agreement on critical areas of life in New Zealand.

When Thursday March 5th, 2015 5:30 PMthrough 7:30 PM Location 10 Grafton Road Business School Owen Glenn Building, University of Auckland
