State Housing tenant challenges eviction
Glen Innes state housing tenant Ioela (Niki) Rauti is appearing at the district court at 9:30am today to challenge
Housing New Zealand (HNZC) on the legitimacy of her eviction and the bullying and harrassment she has been subject to.
Niki's home is a part of the Northern Glen Innes Redevelopment which involves the removal of state housing from the area
to be replaced with mixed tenure housing, the majority of which will be for private sale.
Niki had her eviction extended by 7 months until the 27 February 2015 by HNZC in order to avoid bad press before the
election.
Niki is making a stand for the elderly, disabled, ill and all state housing tenants that are being forced from their
homes and communities.
Removing the state housing stock from communities so that developers can profit from increasing land values is not the
solution to the housing crisis.
If the court rules against Niki today, she will have 48 hours to leave her home.
Come to the District Court at 9am to support Niki and the struggle for decent affordable housing for all people.
