Greedy Mr Pig greets striking ANZ workers

ANZ workers walked off the job today and together marched up Queen Street to confront greedy ANZ at their flagship Queen Street store, according to the bank workers union.

The workers were greeted upon arrival with a giant inflatable pig, symbolising the greed of ANZ.

“ANZ workers sent a strong message today that they are sick of the bank’s greedy behaviour”, said FIRST Union organiser Tali Williams.

“ The bank made record profits of $1.7 billion and CEO David Hisco received an 11% pay rise that takes his annual pay packet to a whopping $4.7 million, yet they refuse to offer their workers a fair pay increase,” said FIRST Union organiser Tali Williams.

“The workers have indicated they will reluctantly accept some reductions to their conditions but they must be compensated fairly for it. A 5% pay rise across the board this year and next year is fair to compensate them for the sacrifices this insecurity will entail.”

“Year after year ANZ’s workers have helped create the bank’s record profits. The CEO and the shareholders get the pay-off, while workers are asked to swallow new hurdles in their lives.”

“We demand that ANZ return to the bargaining table with a revised pay offer that acknowledges the sacrifices and hard work the workers put up with.”
