White Ribbon Campaign Shocked at Fatal Stabbing

The White Ribbon Campaign extends its condolences to the family of a women fatally stabbed in Auckland's North Shore.

"That this murder has occurred so soon after White Ribbon Day, brings home the need for our country to address family violence with the utmost urgency," says White Ribbon Ambassador Mark Longley who was today attending the White Ribbon Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in the North Shore, just kilometres away from the scene of the murder.

"I would like on behalf of the White Ribbon Campaign, to extend our condolences to the family. There are no words that can describe how they will be feeling right now, and no words that will take away the unbelievable pain.

“Family violence has devastating consequences, and today is a terrible example of the worst possible result.

"There have been hundreds of White Ribbon Events across the country, all held for the same purpose, to engage men to eliminate this violence. At events on Friday and Saturday there will be an added poignancy, and we will be asking for a moments silence to remember the women who have been tragically killed.

"This devastating event is a reminder of just how much more work there is to do, and we are asking men from across the country to take The Pledge, so that together we can work towards eliminated family violence," says Mr Longley.

White Ribbon activities continue across the country with The White Ribbon Ride participating in a number of Auckland Activities:

· White Ribbon Free Family Day, Saturday noon Hayman Park
