New report shows importance of employer support for victims of family violence
The Public Service Association (PSA) has welcomed a new report, Intimate partner violence and the workplace, published today by the NZ Family Violence Clearinghouse at the University of Auckland.
Richard Wagstaff, PSA National Secretary, said “White Ribbon Day is an opportunity for us all to examine what we can do to support victims of family violence,”
“This report shows how important the workplace is in helping victims of domestic violence to escape their situations and have healthy, fulfilling lives.
“With the proper support, victims of family violence can thrive in our society. Staying in work is vital, but too often the workplace hinders rather than helps.
“The PSA wants to see proper workplace supports put in place to ensure people aren’t penalised at work for what happens in their home lives.
“We commend the Family Violence Clearinghouse for their excellent work summarising the research, local and international, in this field.
“Family violence is never ok, and we must do all we can to support those suffering from it,” said Richard Wagstaff.
