Great Britain welcomes NZ Ebola commitment
The New Zealand government decision to deploy 24 volunteers to Sierra Leone to help combat Ebola is very welcome, said British High Commissioner Jonathan Sinclair.
“Ebola is a dreadful disease and requires an international effort to contain its spread and impact. New Zealand’s support is therefore a further boost to that effort.”
“With an extra $1 million also going to help prepare Pacific Island countries against the disease, New Zealand has made clear its commitment to international aid efforts.”
Great Britain’s Ebola effort in Sierra Leone was substantial.
“My government has committed $460 million towards the building of six treatment facilities in-country, the training of up to 240 health workers a week, the supply of 300,000 single use protective suits, and support on the ground from our military.
“Further help from our friends and allies to help deal with this tragedy is very welcome.”
