Roast Busters protesters lock themselves to Auckland Central Police Headquarters
Auckland, 6 November 2014 - As a direct response to news that the Roast Busters group will not be prosecuted, three
young women have locked themselves to the front of Auckland Central Police Headquarters.
"We are disgusted with police treatment of the girls that came forward," says spokesperson Genevieve Wilson. "The case
was dismissed due to an alleged lack of evidence, but we know police mishandled an original testimony and used victim
blaming tactics to shame the complainant. How can we be sure initial evidence was dealt with according to protocol?"
Police admitted that a 15 year old girl who approached them had in fact attempted to file a report two years earlier,
age 13. Her claim was not taken seriously at the time.
Today's silent vigil aims to highlight a lack of police accountability for the mishandling of complainants, and to show
solidarity with the Roast Busters victims.
