PSA to support members through job loss at MSD

The Public Service Association (PSA) says it will be doing all it can to support its members whose jobs are among the 98 positions to be disestablished at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).

MSD has released their final decision on a restructure that will bring together the Work & Income and Students, Seniors and Integrity Services parts of the ministry. The PSA has over 6300 members at MSD.

Erin Polaczuk, PSA national secretary, said “Losing a job is never easy, so the PSA will be doing everything we can to make sure those losing their jobs are able to land on their feet,”

“107 new roles have been established, and we hope that many of these will prove suitable for those whose positions have been disestablished.

“We worked constructively with MSD throughout this process, making two detailed written submissions based on feedback from our members at the coalface.

“There remains a lot of detail to work through on the implementation of these significant changes.

“The PSA looks forward to working closely with MSD to find constructive solutions that work for staff and clients.

“Restructures are hard on all staff affected, and it is important that employers involve staff and unions at every step to ensure a positive solution,” said Erin Polaczuk.
