Hikoi From North Reaches Oil Conference Tomorrow
Today: The Hikoi opposing Statoil plans for seismic testing and deep sea oil drilling has marched through Dargaville and later be welcomed to Piringatahi Marae, West Harbour,Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland.
Tomorrow: The Hikoi converges with local Auckland anti-oil groups and concerned public opposite Britomart at 11.30am. At 12 noon a march begins to Sky City where the Oil Conference is being held. Norwegian oil giant, Statoil is sponsoring the conference. 300 delegates are expected to attend.
The corporation was given an extreme deep sea oil exploration permit of the west coast of Northland in December.
