Dr Paul Hutchison praised for work to reduce child poverty

The Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) has thanked retiring National MP Dr Paul Hutchison for his work to reduce child poverty.

“Dr Hutchison chaired Parliament’s Health Select Committee which produced a very thorough report with specific recommendations to improve the lives of children,” says ASMS Executive Director Ian Powell.

“This report was notable for achieving cross-party support, which is to the Committee’s – and Dr Hutchison’s – credit. Dr Hutchison would have made a very able cabinet minister.”

He says ASMS supports Dr Hutchison’s call for the Prime Minister to now instigate the report’s recommendations.

“The Government needs to pick up the challenge to address child poverty. In the meantime, we wish Dr Hutchison all the best in his life following the general election. Hopefully he won’t be lost to the health sector.”
