LGNZ congratulates National
Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) congratulates re-elected Prime Minister John Key and the National led government on winning their third consecutive term following Saturday’s general election.
LGNZ President Lawrence Yule acknowledges the strong vote the National Party was given.
“The overwhelming majority of votes for the National Party gives Government a clear mandate for its policies,” Mr Yule says.
In its election campaign, National signalled that its priorities included reform of the Resource Management Act, improving housing affordability, the provision of good quality resilient infrastructure and strong economic development.
“Local government plays a key role in all of those policy matters which contribute to creating vibrant communities and economic growth. Our intention is work constructively with Government to deliver on these goals for a stronger New Zealand,” Mr Yule says.
LGNZ would like to congratulate Palmerston North Mayor Jono Naylor, Carterton Mayor Ron Mark and Tauranga City councillor Clayton Mitchell on their entry into Parliament, along with former Westland Mayor and LGNZ National Council member Maureen Pugh, based on the preliminary results.
