Wellington City joins the global call for 100% clean
Wellington City residents join millions worldwide in the largest climate mobilisation in history.
At 1:00 pm, residents and visitors of Wellington gathered at the summit of Mt Victoria to join the millions strong call for a 100% clean future.

WHO: Initiated and organised by Island bay resident Helen Williamson, and including a diverse group of residents from around Wellington. Speakers included Greg Fullmoon, Chris Bean (of the NZ Youth Delegation), and others from the Sustainability Trust.
The September 21st global day of action takes place on the doorstep of an emergency summit of world leaders in New York to discuss a unified government response to climate change, chaired by UN Secretary General, Ban KiMoon.
Local, national and international civil society organizations are meeting world leaders as they arrive in New York City with a hundreds of thousands strong People’s Climate March.
At the same time, thousands of petition deliveries demanding 100% clean will be held in more than 88 countries, including the rally on top of Mount Victoria right here in Wellington.
“This climate day of action is snowballing into a massive mobilisation of millions around the world who want leaders to do more to stop runaway climate change," said Helen Williamson, an Avaaz member from Wellington.
"Wellington residents are taking part to help show the huge level of public support for a global deal that will avert climate catastrophe and unleash a new 100% clean future."
Polls show 90% of people worldwide see climate change as a serious problem. Now over a million people in the streets are making it clear that world leaders must take urgent action to stop catastrophic climate change.
