Grey Power congratulates Key
Grey Power National President Terry King congratulated John Key for his party’s “resounding win “ in yesterday’s
election and hoped that the new National Government would look hard at issues affecting the ever–growing number of older
New Zealanders.
“Delays in elective surgery and the reduction of home-care hours are affecting our older members, and require urgent
government attention,” he said.
“We are opposed to any changes in eligibility for superannuation, as many elderly people are completely dependent on
this as their sole source of income, and believe voters rejected Labour’s policy of capital gains tax and an increase in
the age of superannuation.”
With over 70 associations spread throughout the country and a nation-wide membership of 70,000, Grey Power is an
apolitical advocacy organisation concerned with promoting the welfare and well-being of the older person.
Mr King says they are keen to meet the new government and build a dialogue to ensure that the needs of the older
generation are not overlooked.
