By ACT’s logic, Epsom should vote for Conservative Candidate

By ACT’s logic, Epsom should vote for Conservative Candidate

“Polling released late in the campaign shows that ACT is a busted flush and that by ACT’s own logic, centre-right Epsom voters should vote for the Conservative candidate”, says Labour candidate for Epsom Michael Wood.

“Last night’s TV3 Reid Research Poll shows that ACT has just .1% support. That means that in a poll of 1000 people, only one individual expressed support for ACT. With two days until the election it is abundantly clear that ACT cannot generate the support to bring additional MPs into Parliament if their shabby deal to rort the Epsom electorate works”

“Yet the whole way along, ACT has claimed that a vote for its Epsom candidate will bring in extra ACT MP’s to help deliver a National-led government. Early in the campaign that was a boldly optimistic statement, now it is dishonest”

“By ACT’s logic, the most strategic thing that centre-right voters in Epsom could do, would be to cast their candidate vote for the Conservative candidate. The Conservatives had 490% more support in last night’s poll than ACT and on every recent poll will have enough support to bring in additional MPs through the reviled coat-tailing provisions. I don't support that process or outcome, but that is ACT's logic consistently applied”

“Labour believes that it is grotesque that ACT, the supposed party of 'self reliance', has asked voters to vote against their own genuine preferences in Epsom, in order to keep their party on life support. If some Epsom voters now turn to the Conservative candidate Christine Rankin based on ACT-logic, then ACT will have no one to blame but themselves”

“Labour stands against the manipulative deal in Epsom. Epsom voters should be free to vote for the candidate they actually want to support, and not be manipulated to prop up a discredited and extreme .1% party”, says Michael Wood.
