Women’s Suffrage Movement – Get Out and Vote!
Thursday 17th September
Tomorrow, Friday 19th September, MANA Movement Candidate for Waiariki, Annette Sykes, will cast her vote at 12 noon at the Zen’s Building, Rotorua.
This will follow a march through Rotorua that will assemble at 10am at City Focus, Rotorua. The purpose of the march is to celebrate 121 years of the right of women to vote not just in New Zealand but in the world.
“I’m going to exercise a right that our foremothers, amazing wahine such as Meri Mangakāhia and Kate Sheppard fought for and a right that I value 121 years later” states MANA Movement Candidate for Waiariki, Annette Sykes. “Laila Harre will be doing the same in Auckland and challenging all women to exercise their right to vote on this significant day. I encourage each and every woman in Rotorua to come along and join us in the march to vote”.
“I’m want to make political history as the first wahine to represent the people of Waiariki in 143 years”. This statement is supported by Te Arawa kaumatua, Te Ariki Morehu as he comments “We’ve never had a wahine lead us in Parliament and I think it is time that we did. Vote Annette Sykes for Waiariki on Saturday 20 September. My whānau and I certainly are.”
Media are advised that if they wish to record Annette Sykes casting a vote inside the voting area to email rotorua@Elections.govt.nz
