Conservatives Break through 5% Threshold
Reports in today’s Dominion Post that the Conservative Party is polling at 6% in Nationals internal polling are not
surprising says the Conservative Napier candidate Garth McVicar.
“At the last Election all of the polls consistently underestimated the level of support for the Conservatives by at
least 50% and it looks like the same thing will happen this time. Judging by the last Election a double figure result is
not out of the question,” says McVicar.
“Just take what is happening in Napier, I only threw my hat into the ring 4 weeks ago [2 ½ years behind Stuart Nash] and
already the polls have me on 22% and giving Mr. Nash a run for his money.”
“What the polls do tell us is that support for the Conservatives has been on the increase since the last Election and
gathering momentum in the last few weeks.”
“The media focus on dirty politics has meant the public have been given little opportunity to the hear the policies that
will directly impact them.”
“Our practice of public meetings and walking the streets means we have been able to communicate directly with the voters
who love the sensible policies of the Conservative Party.”
“What has been particularly encouraging has been the amount of support we are receiving from younger voters who care
about the future direction of New Zealand.”
“The Conservatives are looking forward to making a positive contribution in the next Parliament and improving the way
our M P’s behave.
“It seems the voters are looking for honesty and integrity this Election and that is something only the Conservative
Party can offer. That is our point of difference.” ENDS
