Fire Service congratulates QSM recpients


Six volunteer firefighters who have each given many years of service to their communities and the public have been presented with Queens Service Medals in Wellington today.

The Royal Honours were presented by the Governor-General the Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae at Government House.

Among the recipients were Taihape brothers Tony and John Collings, whose family has given three generations and 238 years of service to the brigade. New Zealand Fire Service Deputy National Commander Paul McGill said “We believe this is the first time two brothers from the same brigade have been awarded with the QSM in the same year”

Tony Collings served as Chief Fire Officer for 19 years and John Collings was a Senior Station Officer for many years.

The other recipients are: Mangaweka Chief Fire Officer Rex Noble, who will have given 50 years service to the brigade next month, Paeroa CFO Bill Rackham, Whitianga volunteer Walter Russell, Mangatangi former CFO and founder of the brigade Don Shanks,

“The Fire Service is very grateful for their dedication and commitment to their communities and to the Fire Service. These Royal Honours are well deserved”
