Law Society surveys election legal and justice policies
The New Zealand Law Society has
published responses from 12 parties contesting the General
Election to five questions on legal and justice
policies.
The responses are summarised in a special feature in the latest issue of the Law Society’s fortnightly LawTalk magazine.
Law Society President Chris Moore says the Law Society has a policy of neutrality in political matters and does not comment on policies and statements made by parties or candidates involved in the election.
“The latest LawTalk aims to assist with understanding of the different policies in the justice arena by printing responses to five questions,” he says.
“These ask about matters such as key objectives in the justice portfolio, views on recent family law and criminal procedure changes, and policies in relation to access to justice, unmet legal needs and legal aid.”
All parties which were registered with the Electoral Commission as at 14 August 2014 were contacted and invited to respond. LawTalk includes the responses of all parties which responded by the assigned deadline.
