Decision ’14: Mediaworks Announces Election Day Coverage

John Campbell, Patrick Gower, Paul Henry, Duncan Garner and Sean Plunket will lead MediaWorks’ comprehensive coverage of the 2014 General Election on TV3, RadioLIVE and online.

John Campbell and Duncan Garner will present TV3’s Decision ‘14 election broadcast, starting at 7pm on Saturday 20 September. They will be joined in the studio by Paul Henry, Linda Clark, Bryce Edwards, Josie Pagani, Te Anga Nathan and Matthew Hooton. 3 News Political Editor, Patrick Gower and a team of journalists will report LIVE from 14 locations around New Zealand, gauging reaction and tracking developments in the electorates. The 7 Days comedians will take a satirical look at proceedings.

• RadioLIVE’s Election Night broadcast will be hosted by Sean Plunket, with panellists Chris Trotter, Mitch Harris and David Slack. RadioLIVE will cross LIVE to the 3 Newselection broadcast throughout the night, and to Marcus Lush and a team of RadioLIVE reporters at political party venues around the country.

Mark Sainsbury will host a RadioLIVE post-election day special from 6am, Sunday 21 September, and at 8am on TV3, Patrick Gower and Lisa Owen will host a special a post-election edition of The Nation.

John Campbell says: “We have a fantastic team, with brilliant and insightful reporters on the ground, and great commentators and analysts in the studio. Election night is also tremendous fun, and we always reflect that in our coverage. We get it right, we really understand what’s going on, but we don’t get too heavy. As somebody who’s been involved in TV3’s election coverage since 1993, I love these nights. The main parties, the smaller parties, the Cinderella moments, the successes, the failures, the hopes realised and the dreams dashed, there really is nothing quite like an election night!”

Duncan Garner says: “What an election this has been. Despite the polls, it's always close on the night and this election will be no different. Election nights make or break people - it's exciting. We’ll have the best people, the best new ground-breaking technology and we'll have the fastest and most accurate results. And we'll have some fun too.”

Sean Plunket says: “Finally we’ll get some sense after what has been one of the craziest ever election campaigns! Radio is a great way to keep up with election night developments, and between the RadioLIVE studio team, our reporters throughout the country, and our ability to take audio from TV3’s broadcast, we’ll be bringing the best possible mix to our listeners.”

Ahead of Election Day, tune in to Decision ’14: Leaders Debate at 8.40pm, Wednesday 10 September on TV3, RadioLIVE, and 3news.co.nz. David Cunliffe and John Key will face off in what may be the most important debate of this election campaign, moderated by John Campbell. After the debate, Paul Henry and a panel of experts will analyse their performances.
