Murray McCully will host his Chinese counterpart

Foreign Minister Murray McCully will host his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, he is here for a working visit to New Zealand from 4-5 September 2014

“My meeting with Minister Wang Yi will cover a range of topics, including the increasing frequency of high-level visits between our two countries; New Zealand’s expanding diplomatic presence in China, our regular human rights dialogue, and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific.

“We will also discuss regional and international issues and New Zealand’s United Nations Security Council candidacy,” Mr McCully says.

Members of Friends of Tibet (NZ) will be there to remind Mr Wang Ye, that we have not forgotten Tibet and also have requested our Foreign Minister Hon Murray McCully to raise the issue about the poor Human Right in Tibet. Many Tibetans have been arbitrarily detained and tortured and only last month many Tibetans have been shot for peaceful demonstration in Tibet.

Thuten Kesang said, “Last 3 year 128 Tibetan have self-immolated in Tibet, due to the harsh policy perused by the Chinese government in Tibet and yet the world is deadly silence on that, due to the massive trade with China, it’s time Tibet issue should be taken seriously by all government concerned”

New Zealand Government has always stated that the government supports the meaningful dialogue

with the Central Tibetan Administration in India and the Chinese Government to resolve issues and allow for true autonomy for Tibet - following the Middle Way approach which the Tibetan Administration have adopted.

I hope that the Minister will bring up this issue with Mr Wang Yi when they talk about the Human Rights issue during his talk
