WINSTON PETERS SHOWN UP BY THE CIVILIAN PARTY

Even the satirical 'Civilian Party' has now offered the Taxpayers’ Union more credible figures for the 'Bribe-O-Meter' than Winston Peters’ New Zealand First. The Taxpayers’ Union Bribe-O-Meter now includes, National, Labour, the Greens, ACT, United Future and the Conservatives – but New Zealand First is unable to provide sufficient policy detail to allow former NZIER economist Dr Michael Dunn to credibly cost the New Zealand First manifesto.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says, “The Bribe-O-Meter is about transparency. It allows voters to appreciate how much election promises are likely to cost. Except New Zealand First, every political party we’ve approached has been helpful in providing information so the public can judge the value for money of their offerings."
Yesterday the Civilian Party founder, Ben Uffindell, offered the Taxpayers’ Union details so that his party can be included in the Bribe-O-Meter.
Mr Williams says, “While we’ve previously attacked the Civilian Party for receiving public funds for what is a satirical project, at least their policies have enough detail to enable more accurate costings than Mr Peters’ broad policy slogans."
“We think it is reasonable to expect Mr Peters’ party to do better than one founded by a comedian."
The Bribe-O-Meter is online at www.taxpayers.org.nz/bribe-o-meter.
