Mary O’Neill to Stand for the Alliance in Napier
The Alliance Party has confirmed Mary O’Neill as the Alliance candidate in the Napier Electorate for the 2014 election.
Party co leader Kay Murray says that the party is delighted Mary is willing to stand for the Alliance this election. Mary is very creative and hardworking.
She has been a long time Alliance member and enthusiastic supporter of the party. Mary is extremely concerned about the environment and social issues such as unemployment, inequality and fair treatment for the elderly, particularly as they relate to the Napier electorate.
Mary will be the Alliance’s sole electorate candidate this election.
The Alliance has reluctantly decided to field only one electorate candidate and no party list.
The Alliance considers it is imperative that National is defeated in 2014. We believe that another three years of this government will decimate our social welfare, health and education systems and see most, if not all of our public assets privatised.
The Left needs to work together to make sure this doesn't happen. The Alliance Party is willing to do our part. Not only will we not stand a list, we have conveyed to our members that we are happy for them to campaign for other parties on the Left except in Napier electorate.
Despite the decision to ‘sit out’ this election, the Alliance still remains a viable political party and we will be vigorously promoting our policies via our members, our website and social media and in Ms O’Neill’s Napier campaign.
We are committed to fighting poverty and inequality. We are also exploring new ideas on how to do this effectively.
The Alliance is determined to do our utmost to help facilitate a shift in politics both in New Zealand and globally from policies that foster individual gain for a few lucky people to policies that work for the common good. We want our country and our planet to be safe and healthy for future generations.
