ONE News & Facebook - Election Coverage Collaboration
Auckland - ONE News and Facebook are collaborating to offer an interactive and social experience for the 2014 General
Election utilising data insights and trends. This collaboration provides a new way for the electorate and candidates to
share their thoughts and opinions about politics in the lead-up to the 2014 Election.
The first ONE News Leaders Debate is live-to-air on Thursday 28 August at 7.00pm, and Facebook will be used to field
questions from voters for the leaders. Users will be directed to post their questions to the wall of the ONE News
Facebook page – the aim is to take five viewer questions and put these to John Key and David Cunliffe live.
Graeme Muir, Editor of Content, TVNZ News and Current Affairs, says: “We are happy to be collaborating with Facebook
because we value their ability to take online snapshots of what people are really talking about. It’s a great way to get
an insight into the things that matter most to people in this election campaign – and ONE News can then reflect those
conversations back to our viewers.”
Trends in fan growth, engagement and content on the Facebook Pages of key political parties and political leaders will
also be highlighted on ONE News. This will show another aspect to the election – which of our political leaders and
influencers are being discussed the most by the 2.4 million New Zealanders who regularly engage via Facebook. Only the
content posted publicly either by candidates or other users that contributes to the discourse of the election will be
highlighted as part of this collaboration.

each month, Facebook is the place where New Zealanders are having conversations about political issues. By integrating
this in to ONE News’ election coverage, we can provide New Zealanders with another insightful news resource for the 2014
