Len Brown Deluded Over Council's Debt
25 AUGUST 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Len Brown’s comments on TV3’s Firstline this morning that Auckland City’s finances are in ‘excellent shape’ are bizarre and scary, says Jordan Williams, Executive Director of theTaxpayers’ Union.
“Is Len Brown in a la la land? Auckland ratepayers have to cover a million dollars of interest payments per day and Len Brown’s telling people everything is well. The emperor has no clothes.”
“As Ratepayers’ Report showed, Auckland has the highest per ratepayer debt of any council in New Zealand. The Council owes nearly $16,000 in liabilities for every rateable property in Auckland. Len Brown must be the only Aucklander to believe the ultra-spin that his Council is in ‘excellent financial shape’."
