Update on application by Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd
This is an update on the application by Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd for a marine consent for its phosphate mining
project.
The marine consent process enables the EPA to obtain advice on any aspect of a marine consent application or on an
activity that is associated with it. This information is provided to the Decision-making Committee to support the
decision-making process.
The EPA commissioned its staff to prepare a report that evaluates the application by CRP. The report is now available on
our website.
Fyi - The hearing on the CRP application by the Decision-making Committee is scheduled to start on 25 September with a
decision due around 18 December 2014.
About the CRP marine consent application
The application by Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd (CRP) is the second marine consent application to be considered by the
Environmental Protection Authority under the new Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) legislation which came into force on 28
June 2013. The EPA is responsible under the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environment Effects) Act 2012
for receiving and deciding on applications for marine consents.
