Green Party to Choke the Golden Goose
17 AUGUST 2014
Reacting to the Green Party’s policy announcement to raise the top personal income tax rate to 40% for earnings over $140,000, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers’ Union says:
"Top top 6% already pay 37% of New Zealand’s income tax. The Greens policy risks choking the economic golden goose, making everyone poorer.”
“Rather than robbing Peter to pay Paul, the best way to alleviate poverty in New Zealand is to encourage growth and get our per capita incomes back into the top half of the OECD. The evidence is clear, low tax economies do better in terms of raising everyone’s lot."
"If the Greens were serious about growing New Zealand’s economy they would stick to taxing resources and carbon, rather than whacking our most productive."
