16 August – National Day of Action in Support of Palestinian Freedom

Palestinian solidarity groups across New Zealand are organising a nationwide day of action in support of the Palestinian struggle on Saturday 16 August.

Events of the last month have brought unprecedented numbers of New Zealanders out to marches and rallies to protest Israel’s genocidal policies against the Palestinian people.

We will build on that momentum to strengthen the campaign to have the Israeli embassy closed and an end to all New Zealand links with apartheid Israel.

We will reach out to more New Zealanders to engage them in effective action to isolate Israel till it abides by UN resolutions and international law.

Already at least eight centres have indicated they will be joining the nationwide action.

Of particular shame for New Zealanders is that our government has a one-sided pro-Israel stance which is shared by both Labour and National spokespeople.

Back in the 1980s it was the anti-apartheid movement which successfully campaigned to cut links with apartheid South Africa against the policies of successive governments.

The movement was successful then and we will repeat that success despite government policy.

Most events on the 16 August begin at 2pm. For example Auckland will rally from 2pm at Aotea Square.
