Banks Conviction: ACT Should Apologise to Epsom
“The conviction of John Banks today is another sad chapter for John Banks and the ACT Party”, says Labour candidate for Epsom Michael Wood.
“Mr Banks was found guilty of electoral fraud in June. Regardless of what sentence is handed down, his reputation is in tatters. Sentencing is a matter for the court, and publicly deriding him further brings little benefit.”
“With the conviction confirmed, it is time for the ACT Party to step up to the mark and apologise to the people of Epsom. Mr Banks has suffered the consequences of his actions, but so far the ACT Party has gotten off scott-free”
“John Banks was the ACT MP for Epsom, and a political lifeline for ACT. They protected and shielded him through the whole scandal. The day before the guilty verdict, ACT campaign manager was defending Mr Banks to the hilt, suggesting that the whole issue was a left-wing conspiracy”
“ACT have embarrassed Epsom time and again. From Rodney Hide’s perks, to Jamie Whyte’s support for incest, and now the Banks conviction. ACT now expect the people of Epsom to roll over and accept a dodgy deal to gift them the seat of Epsom. They have no respect for the people of Epsom who have been embarrassed by this circus of a party. ACT should immediately apologise”, says Michael Wood.
