Sealord applauds passing of Fisheries FCV Bill
Sealord Group has welcomed the passing of the Fisheries (Foreign Charter Vessels) Amendment Bill as a move that will safeguard workers and protect New Zealand’s sustainable fishing reputation.
Sealord CEO, Graham Stuart said that the amendment is an important part of shining a light on a small but dark corner of the industry.
“Sealord congratulates the Ministry of Primary Industries for ensuring that all fishermen in New Zealand are well treated and fairly paid. This is a positive move for New Zealand’s reputation in important export markets,” said Stuart.
Sealord has worked with three Ukrainian vessels and their crews for more than 20 years.
“We’re fortunate to have these expert fishermen as part of the Sealord team, they are an essential part of our business, some of the most respected seafarers in the world and operate to the highest standard,” said Stuart.
Sealord is well down the track towards reflagging the three vessels which specialise at fishing for lower value species like barracouta, squid and mackerel.
