Independent candidate advocates monetary paradigm shift

Media Statement:

Independent candidate advocates paradigm shift in monetary policy.

Waikanae veterinarian Dr Amanda Vickers is standing as an independent for the Otaki electorate, with a view to modernise monetary policy.

“I want to ensure everyone understands that banks create money out of thin air and charge us interest on it," said Ms Vickers. “The impact of this is far reaching, and includes an ever widening inequality gap, a growth imperative on a finite planet, and unsustainable indebtedness,” she said.

After the GFC Amanda became aware of a growing number of monetary reform movements globally. “They are gaining momentum because they are talking sense," said Ms Vickers, who is a member of the New Zealand chapter, Positive Money. “The message is simple: the privilege and benefit of creating a nation's money supply should belong to the Government, not private banks” she said, “it truly is the elephant in the room”.
