Novopay debacle shows danger of contracting out public services
The Public Service Association (PSA) says the Novopay debacle shows core public services are best provided in-house.
Glenn Barclay, PSA acting National Secretary, said “Novopay is a prime example of the danger of contracting out core
public services such as payroll,”
“It is good to see Novopay come back into public control, but this debacle should never have happened in the first
place.
“Bringing Novopay staff into the public fold will help to beef up public sector capacity to provide large-scale projects
such as this.
“A public service ethos would never have allowed so many teachers to go without pay for so long.
“The danger of contracting out must now be recognised to avoid the same mistakes being made in the future,” saidGlenn
Barclay.
