Greg Campbell appointed Chief Executive of Wellington Regional Council
Chair of Wellington Regional Council, Fran Wilde today announced the appointment of Greg Campbell as Chief Executive of the Council.
Greg Campbell will take up the role in September following the departure of outgoing Chief Executive David Benham who is retiring after nine years in the role.
Greg has extensive experience in the private sector, most recently as Chief Marketing Officer and Director at Vodafone New Zealand. Previous positions include Managing Director of The New Zealand Guardian Trust Company and General Manager, Products and Marketing, ANZ Bank.
“We are delighted with Greg’s appointment,” says Fran Wilde. “Greg is a proud Wellingtonian at heart and is very much looking forward to returning here. Although he is new to local government, his leadership experience in complex situations, together with his business and marketing skills, will be of huge benefit to the regional council as we respond to significant issues in transport, economic development, infrastructure and potential local government reform.
“Greg is acutely aware of the challenges that the Wellington region faces, and is looking forward to bringing to the Council his energy, drive and collaborative leadership style”.
Fran Wilde has congratulated David Benham for the job he has done in leading the council since his appointment as Chief Executive in 2005, and acknowledged his long service since he joined the Council in 1989.
“Dave has seen the organisation through a period of major achievement and can be proud of the legacy he leaves.”
Greg Campbell says he is extremely pleased to have the opportunity to return to Wellington in such a pivotal leadership role and is looking forward to working closely with the elected councillors and staff.
“I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to lead an organisation so actively involved in and committed to the region's communities. I’m returning to the place I love and where I have spent so much of my working life, and look forward to working in collaboration with stakeholders and communities to make the Wellington region an even more wonderful place to live, work and play."
The appointment is for five years.
