FMC Backs Fish and Game's Role on Freshwater

FMC Backs Fish and Game's Role on Freshwater

Federated Mountain Clubs today reinforced its strong support for the New Zealand Fish and Game Council's statutory role in advocating for anglers and hunters interests in freshwater. FMC President Robin McNeill stated that the Federation's 17,000 members all cared deeply about the ongoing degradation of the country's waterways and backed Fish and Game's continuing advocacy for improvements in water quality.

"The democratically elected Fish and Game Councils were a proven model for conservation management in New Zealand, and they are doing a great job currently. There are also lots of opportunities for sustainable and profitable agriculture that has a lesser effect on water quality"

"Fish and Game's role must remain", Mr McNeill also stated, adding that "New Zealanders are engaged in a wider debate about what we want as a society for our freshwater, and this debate is only beginning".
