DSC announces Party List
Democrats for Social Credit Party Leader, Stephnie de Ruyter, today announced the line up of the Party’s candidates and list rankings for the forthcoming election.
The party will field thirty electorate candidates and four list only candidates.
Nine more candidates are standing this election than in 2011, with twice as many standing as electorate candidates.
There are ten new candidates standing, many of whom are in their 30s and 40s and this reflects a growing membership in that age group.
The youngest candidate is Andrew Leitch 29, a commercial pilot, standing in New Lynn. He is followed on the list by Jason Jobsis 31, a security officer, standing in Clutha-Southland.
This election year marks the 60th anniversary of the Democrats for Social Credit Party’s first foray in the political arena in 1954, as the Social Credit Political League. The Party has contested every election held during those sixty years.
Support reached a peak in the 1981 election when it achieved 21 percent. Under MMP the Party would have had 19 MPs but because the election was held under the First Past the Post system it only gained two, Bruce Beetham and Garry Knapp.
The top two places on the list are filled by Ms de Ruyter who is standing in Invercargill, and Deputy Leader Chris Leitch who is standing in Whangarei.
Rounding out the top 6 are bio-security officer John Pemberton in Taupo, copywriter Katherine Ransom in Waikato, health practitioner Warren Voight in Dunedin South, and actor/producer Alida Steemson in Ohariu.
The party will hold its Diamond Jubilee conference and 2014 campaign launch on the 2nd & 3rd August at the Elms Hotel in Christchurch.
