Key And Coleman Should Come Out of Hiding: Internet Party
The Prime Minister and Minister of Immigration are hiding on holiday and leaving public servants to face the fallout
from the Kim Dotcom immigration scandal, says Internet Party leader Laila Harré.
“It’s obvious John Key and Jonathan Coleman were warned that some classified papers were being released and they’ve done
what smart National politicians do – hide and leave someone else to face the music. Mr Key shot off to Hawaii for a
holiday a few weeks – this close to an tight election – and Dr Coleman issued a small statement blaming someone else,
stressing that he, too, was on holiday.”
Ms Harré said the affair had shown how sneaky the Government had become.
“It’s a feature of the way this Government operates. Public servants would never make a decision on a case like Kim
Dotcom without a Minister’s assent. By his deafening silence, does Mr Key signal assent? Why won’t he front up and
answer some questions about the long string of coincidences about this case?”
Those coincidences were piling up, demanding an explanation from the Prime Minister.
“Mr Key has been to Hollywood. Hollywood has been to see Mr Key. Mr Key has been to the White House and a top-ranking
United States security official has been to see Mr Key. These coincidences actually add up to a conspiracy – no other
conclusion can be reached.
“We are determined to get to the bottom of this. We want the truth. New Zealanders deserve the truth.
“There can be no more brushing off of the concerns of the people with trite phrases about how comfortable the Prime
Minister feels about our laws being operated for the interests of foreign countries. This is our country and New
Zealanders know in their gut that there is a huge secret being kept from them.”
