New posting for British High Commissioner
The British High Commissioner to New Zealand, Samoa and Governor of Pitcairn, Mrs Vicki Treadell, completes her assignment here at the end of July.
She will take up her new position as British High Commissioner to Malaysia later this year. The appointment was announced in London on 25 June.
Mrs Treadell has a wide range of diplomatic and commercial experience. She arrived in New Zealand in May 2010 following a four year posting as the Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai, covering Western India. Her other postings were to Kuala Lumpur and Islamabad.
While at the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London she worked on policy issues for Western Europe and Latin America, as well as in the office of the FCO’s Permanent Under Secretary of State.
Mrs Treadell was UKTI’s Director for the North West of England, responsible for the strategic direction of trade promotion as a key driver of regional economic development, between 2002– 2006.
Mrs Treadell said she has thoroughly enjoyed her time in New Zealand.
“Each country has its own unique character and set of circumstances. It has been a privilege to have represented the United Kingdom in New Zealand and Samoa. This is a very special part of the world.”
Mrs Treadell said she was very much looking forward to her next post in Malaysia.
“I was born in Malaysia and I also served there some years ago, so much will be familiar but the challenges and opportunities will be new.”
Jonathan Sinclair will replace Mrs Treadell in early August.
Mr Sinclair joined the FCO in 1996 after completing a Masters in International Relations and short stints in media and tourism. He has previously served in India and the USA and, in London, has done a wide range of roles where foreign and domestic policies and politics intersect, including on Europe, national security, and trade and investment.
