Labour MP calls on countries to ratify the Arms Trade Treaty

President of Parliamentarians for Global Action Ross Robertson has called upon PGA members worldwide to assertively advocate and reach out to their respective Governments to promote signature and ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) so that it may enter into force on or before September 2014.

“I am pleased to note that among the 41 UN Member States that have ratified the ATT to date, half of them are countries in which PGA and its members have been directly and actively involved in promoting the ATT’s signature and ratification,” said Ross Robertson.

“These countries are: Austria, Belgium, Costa Rica, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Germany, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom.

“In addition we continue to actively, vigorously and successfully promote signature and ratification of the ATT in many other countries worldwide, several of which I anticipate will become a party to the ATT within the coming few weeks”, he said.

“I understand that we may reach the milestone of the 50 UN Member States needed for the ATT to enter into force within the next few weeks, and I am hopeful that New Zealand might be amongst this historic group to ratify and bring about the entry into force of the ATT,” said Ross Robertson.
