WikiLeaks reveals secret plan to damage New Zealand’s public services
The Public Service Association (PSA) says today’s release by WikiLeaks of the draft text for the secret Trade in
Services Agreement (TISA) Financial Services Annex has shone much needed light on a plan which would have significant
impacts on New Zealand’s public services.
Richard Wagstaff, PSA National Secretary, said “This massive trade deal will put public health care, child care, postal,
broadcasting, water, and other services at risk,”
“TISA will lock in the privatisation of services so future governments cannot return water, energy, health, education or
other services to public hands.
“The Minister of Trade Tim Groser must explain why he is so keen to abandon local control of the public services New
Zealanders use and trust.
“If the Government thinks this is a good idea, they should be up front rather than hide behind secretive international
talks.
“Public services exist for the good of all New Zealanders, not for the profit of multinational corporations,” said
Richard Wagstaff.
