Best Programme of the Year Award in Line With 2-Million People Report
The recently released 2-Million People’s Report recommends prevention via education, especially for children, to interrupt the cycle of violence.
Aotearoa (Adult Community Education Aotearoa will present its Best Programme of the Year Award tomorrow (Wednesday 18 June) to a programme that does just that. Kidpower’s Healthy Relationships programme teaches positive skills in ways that make it easy to recognize risky situations, build good communication and make it easier to get help to break the cycle of violence, stop bullying, intimidation, or abuse.
The People’s Report resulted from the Glenn Inquiry into child abuse and domestic violence with over 500 victims, perpetrators and frontline workers in 2013. Demand for Kidpower’s services continues to increase as people realise that preventing abuse and bullying is far more effective than dealing with the consequences.
“There are very few things you can teach that will have such a profound and positive impact on someone’s life in such a short period of time,” says Cornelia Baumgartner, the Programme Director of Kidpower “We teach positive and practise positive relationship skills by doing them, so that people apply them in their daily lives. They help build respectful relationships and foster a positive outlook on life.”
