‘Party Party’ to Pump up Political Pressure
A big push to get young voters involved in the political process will see the Internet Party take a group of leading Kiwi musicians on the road for a series of concerts.
The Party Party tour takes in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin from July 23-26.
It features some of the country’s leading live acts – State of Mind, Optimus Gryme, Sons of Zion, Laughton and Brad Kora, PNC, Kamandi, Team Dynamite, Tommy Ill and Beatmob. Internet Party founder Kim Dotcom will also be making a special appearance at all four events.
Internet Party leader Laila Harré said tour was focused on getting young Kiwis interested in politics in a way that was fun and entertaining.
“Young people simply aren’t going to rock up to town hall meetings to hear politicians talk at them over a cup of tea and cucumber sandwiches. We’re serious about getting the message out that young people need and deserve to have their say on September 20, and to get that message out we’re taking it to them in a way they can connect with and enjoy.”
Ms Harré said too many young Kiwis had given up on voting – or even enrolling to vote – because they felt disenfranchised by the system and did not want anything to do with government.
“It’s not just an issue for young people – far too many Kiwis have given up because they don’t think there’s any way to challenge the status quo. The Internet Party’s here to say that there is a way and that it’s an important democratic right for everyone to have their say in the future of our country.
“We want to turn things around so that instead of people thinking ‘I don’t count, so I won’t vote’, they understand that their vote is powerful tool in getting get positive change for New Zealand by changing the government on September 20.”
