QPEC Release: Tick For Kids
“QPEC welcomes the launch of the Tick For Kids campaign. It is time to put our children first and focus on policies that aim to improve the living conditions of Kiwi kids.
OECD research has repeatedly shown that the largest source of variation in student achievement results is factors associated with the student: their abilities and attitudes, and family and community background.
As leading education commentator, Diane Ravitch, has remarked: “Schools and society are intertwined. We must improve schools and do lots more to improve the lives of children and their families. If we ignore poverty, all our school reform efforts will fail.”
QPEC calls on all political parties to set aside their ideological biases and work together to support Kiwi kids and strengthen community schools.
Collaboration and co-operation should underpin our approach, not competition.
Only by working together are we likely to succeed in seeing all New Zealand children reach their full potential.”
