Immigration officers, mediators and others working for the so-called ‘super ministry’ will take strike action on Friday, after over a year spent trying to get a fair deal from the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE).
The 1150 workers are members of the Public Service Assocation (PSA), and work all across New Zealand in roles that help keep our borders safe, grow our economy and promote science and innovation.
Richard Wagstaff, PSA National Secretary, said “MBIE workers are key to the Government’s plans for New Zealanders wages to rise, but they find themselves stuck in the mud,”
“MBIE staff protect our borders, promote innovation and help to grow the New Zealand economy – they deserve their fair share.
“This strike action is the result of ministry staff becoming increasingly frustrated with their employer’s refusal to offer decent wage movement.
“After a year, the best pay offer is nothing for those who entitled to progression through their salary scale and 1% for everyone else.
“We hope that MBIE will come back to the bargaining table with an offer that better reflects the value their staff add to our public service,” said Richard Wagstaff.
