Politicians, actors, fashion designers, civic leaders and rugby players lend their support
Politicians, actors, fashion designers, civic leaders and prominent rugby players have all thrown their weight behind
the campaign to end sexual violence in conflict zones.
“The support from New Zealanders has simply been huge,” says Wellington-based British High Commissioner, Vicki Treadell.
“It has come from a wide range of people that includes Prime Minister John Key, Labour Leader David Cunnliffe, former
Prime Minister Dame Jenny Shipley, Annie star Su Pollard, fashion designer Trelise Cooper, Civic leaders Len Brown,
Lianne Dalziel, Fran Wilde and Celia Wade-Brown, and rugby legend Michael Jones.
“The support of these people and the many hundreds of thousands of people showing their support via social media across
New Zealand and around the world will help make a difference to the outcome of the Summit currently under way in
London.”
The Summit is being led by UK Foreign Secretary William Hague and Special Envoy for the UN High Commissioner for
Refugees Angelina Jolie.
Justice Minister Judith Collins is representing New Zealand at the Summit.
Wellingtonians have been invited to show their support by joining a flash mob event outside the main door of Te Papa at
1pm today. The event will move indoors to the first floor of Te Papa if it’s wet.
“The event will last for one hour and everyone is invited. This is a chance for individuals to show their support.”
The event will be filmed and shown during the Summit in London. “We will also be asking people to madly send messages
via social media channels during the one hour period. They will become part of a global relay across more than 140
countries.”
